kiwi fruit

Edible fruit of the vine (family Actinidiaceae), native to mainland China and the island of Taiwan and grown commercially in New Zealand and California. It became popular in the nouvelle cuisine of the 1970s. It has a slightly acid taste and is high in vitamin C. Kiwi can be eaten raw or cooked, and the juice is sometimes used as a meat tenderizer.
