Krikalyov, Sergey Konstantinovich

(born Aug. 27, 1958, Leningrad, Russia, U.S.S.R.) Russian cosmonaut. He became a cosmonaut in 1985 and flew his first space mission in 1988–89, during which he spent 151 days on the Mir space station. In 1991–92, during which he spent 311 days on Mir, he was in space when the Soviet Union broke apart. Krikalyov became the first cosmonaut to serve aboard a U.S. spacecraft when he flew as a mission specialist on the space shuttle in 1994. On his next three spaceflights, he visited the International Space Station. Krikalyov accumulated the record for most time in space: 803 days.
